Visual Studio 2008 question

Apr 9, 2008 at 5:59 PM
Just a general question for anyone out there. Can I use Visual Studio 2008 Professional Student Edition for this? I know right now Platform Builder is not supported but will everything else work? Has anyone tried it yet?

Thanks.

The SDK will not install on VS2008 as far as I can tell. It gives the error:

ToolsMsmCa(Error): IHxFilters filter registration failure: Err = 0x80040305, Context = pFilters->SetNameSpace( NameSpace )

ToolsMsmCa(Error): IHxRegisterSession transaction failure: Err = 0x8004036f, pRegSession->CommitTransaction()

Somewhere I read that 'Unselecting the .Net Compact Framework option' in the SDK install fixes this, but not for me. Are the managed libraries any different to the ones we purchased from OpenNETCF?

Apart from not requiring PB and having a prebuilt image, is there any point in installing the SDK?

Thanks

All development and testing was done under VS2005/Compact Framework 2.0.
I would assume you will incounter some issues under 2008 ... if you can get it to install at all.
VS 2008 comes with Compact Framework 3.5 but can be downgraded to target CF 2.0 I have read. Never tried it.
The OpenNETCF assemblies are the same. The lates release includes a few (not all) 2.2 SDF assemblies from the community release.
